Our Place in the Alps

Strategically located

Our old Schoolhouse chalet is situated strategically between the Mont Blanc and the Vanoise National Park.

Bordering a mountain hamlet, with incredible views on the surrounding peaks and the valley below, amidst forest and pastures, our place is an old farmhouse which served as the local country school from 1923 to 1974. It was fully renovated in 2000.

The rural environment, the peace and comfort make it an ideal place to meet up with friends or family in large groups taking up the entire chalet, or to enjoy the area in smaller numbers and share experiences with others.

Peacefulness at a stone's throw from the ski resort

Situated just 5 mn away from of one of the largest ski areas of the French Alps (La Plagne Paradiski) we drive our guests with our own minibuses, with no waiting. In summer it is very central to many hiking and touring areas which have made this region famous.

The village resort of La Plagne-Montalbert opens in summer as well as winter. It is just 4 km by road and 1,5 km by the path that winds through the forest. When the snow conditions are right, it is possible to ski back down to our chalet, off piste. In summer the many activities on offer, as well as the bars and shops can be reached following a very pleasant (though uphill!) walk.

Between the alpine passes of the Iseran, Petit Saint Bernard, Cormet de Roselend and Col de la Madeleine, it is an ideal base for cyclists and motorcyclists. At the bottom of the valley, the Isere is one of Europe's most famous spots for rafting and kayaking, with a 23 km stretch of whitewater.

How to get here

By car

• In Albertville take the expressway to Moutiers.
• Then, at Moutiers, follow the directions to Aime, Bourg Saint Maurice.
• Take the Aime exit and cross the town in the direction of La Plagne.
• Pass under 2 bridges (highway and train) then, after 500 m. in front of a large furniture store on the right.
• 200 m later, take the road on the right at the crossroads. The road is signposted PLAGNE MONTALBERT and Montvilliers in smaller size. Follow it for 3 km.
• In a hairpin to the right, a smaller road goes straight ahead, signposted Montvilliers, Planchamps, Montgilbert. Follow it for 2.5 km. We are the first large house on the left at the entrance to the village.

By train

The Aime - La Plagne SNCF station, 7 km from the Gîte-auberge de Montvilliers, is served by TGV, Thalys (except off-season) and TER. We will pick you up personally upon your arrival.

By plane

Four airports serve our region.

• Chambéry : but which only has seasonal flights from Great Britain, is the closest: An hour and a quarter drive.
• Grenoble : airport mainly served by charters, the speed of passage on arrival and boarding is unpredictable.
• Lyon : easy to access. Almost only expressway and motorway from the start to the end of the trip. Allow two and a quarter hours for the journey. The trip can be very crowded on Saturdays during school holidays.
• Genève : the best served but sometimes congested airport in the region.

How to get from the airports to Montvilliers

• If you are alone or possibly two you can take a coach from the airport to Aime station and we will then pick you up. The downside is that you don't have a hand on the schedules. The airport with the highest frequency of departures to the ski resorts is Geneva.
• From three people, the most economical solution is to rent a car. See the special rates of low cost airlines.
• We also offer to pick up our guests at the airport. We recommend this solution for families because you have no time hassles, neither when you arrive nor when you leave.
